On September 13, Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards hosted a volunteer workday on the Raven Cliffs Falls Trail in the Chattahoochee- Oconee National Forest. Our dedicated volunteers and wilderness rangers removed four massive trees blocking the trail, one of which had forced hikers to wade across the river just to get by. We also collected trash and rehabilitated several overused campsites to restore and protect the area’s natural character. It was a rewarding day watching hikers happily pass through cleared areas on the return leg of their hikes. The hours logged (pun intended!) during this event directly support our Georgia Wilderness Rangers & Specialists Program, which is funded in part by the Georgia DNR. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our sponsors at the DNR and to every volunteer who joined us. Your hard work makes a real difference!
